FAQ
How do I book an appointment?
You can book, cancel and reschedule appointments in the client portal. We’re also only a phone call away at (724) 952-5123.
Do you groom cats?
Yes! We groom cats. We offer haircuts, baths, brush-outs and nail services.
What if my dog is matted?
We’ll always prioritize safety and comfort. Severe matting may require shaving to prevent pain and skin injury, but we’ll keep you informed before we perform any services.
How often should my pet be groomed?
Most pets do best on a consistent schedule. The right frequency depends on coat type, lifestyle, and the look you want to maintain.
A few common guidelines (assuming regular brushing at home):
- Curly / non-shedding coats: typically every 4-6 weeks
- Long / silky coats: typically every 4-8 weeks
- Double coats: typically 6-10 weeks
If you’re not sure, we’re happy to recommend a schedule during your consultation.
How often should I brush at home?
Brushing frequency depends heavily on coat type. As a starting point:
- Curly / non-shedding coats: every 1-2 days
- Long / silky coats: every 2-3 days
- Double coats: at least twice a week
What tools should I use for brushing at home?
For many coats, a slicker brush + metal comb is the best combination:
- The slicker brush does the detangling
- The metal comb checks your work (the comb should glide all the way through from skin to ends).
Other tools can work well with other coat types – for example a rubber curry for short coats that shed.
We’re happy to make specific recommendations regarding your at-home regimen. Just ask during your consult!
Is matting really a big deal?
Yes – matting isn’t just cosmetic. Mats can:
- Pull on the skin and cause discomfort
- Trap moisture and irritate skin
- Lead to hot spots, infections, and restricted movement
- Make grooming more stressful (and sometimes painful)
The earlier matting is addressed, the more options we have.
Do you have to shave a matted coat?
Every pet is different. If mats are too tight to brush out safely, shaving can be the most humane option.
If shaving is needed, we’ll communicate clearly and set expectations. Shaving only works if we can get between the mat and the skin, and matting often forms very close to the skin, meaning that the final length may be shorter than you’d prefer.
Can my pet be bathed if they’re matted?
It’s usually best to avoid bathing a matted coat. Water can tighten mats and make them harder (and more uncomfortable) to remove. If you suspect matting, reach out – often we can help salvage the coat if we catch it in time.
What happens after a matted coat is shaved?
When severe matting is removed, the skin can be sensitive as circulation returns. You may notice:
- Redness or irritation
- Increased scratching or licking
- Mild sensitivity as the coat and skin recover
- In severe cases, hematoma can form as a result of sudden restoration of blood circulation
If you ever see signs of infection, lethargy, or anything that concerns you, contact your veterinarian.
Can you keep my pet’s coat fluffy and long?
Often yes – if the coat condition supports it and there’s a consistent at-home routine. Maintaining a long coat is a partnership between:
- Professional grooming schedule
- Brushing routine at home
- Lifestyle (water, mud, play, friction from harnesses, collars, and other gear)
- Coat type and texture
If a long style is important to you, we’ll recommend the maintenance plan that makes it realistic.
What should I do if I’m not sure what to book?
Service descriptions that appear on the booking portal are accurate but general. If you want something specific, book the service that sounds closest and provide your stylist with details at your appointment time. We’ll always meet with you at drop off to confirm services and make sure we understand your requests.
Do you offer add-ons (like teeth brushing, de-shedding, etc.)?
Yes! We have an extensive offering of optional services. You can select them when booking your appointment or you can feel free to ask any questions and add those types of services at drop-off.
Do you offer in-between maintenance help?
We do and we encourage you to reach out to schedule a maintenance visit if your pet is getting tangly between scheduled grooming appointments. Life happens – if your at-home regimen starts to get away from you we’ve got you covered. Just give us a call as most brush out services can be accommodated on relatively short notice.
Should I do anything before my appointment?
A few helpful tips:
- Make sure your pet has had a chance to go potty before arrival
- Bring any notes about sensitivities (ears, feet, anxiety triggers)
- If you have reference photos, have them ready (on your phone works great!)
- Let us know about any recent changes (skin issues, injuries, new meds)
- Make sure any prescribed anxiety medication has been administered in the proper dose and timeframe
If your pet is anxious, a calm drop-off routine helps more than you’d think.
My pet is nervous – can you still groom them?
Absolutely. Many pets need time, patience, and a steady routine. Helpful things you can do:
- Keep a consistent grooming schedule (predictability reduces anxiety)
- Practice gentle handling at home (touch paws, ears, face briefly + reward)
- Share what you’ve noticed: what helps, what doesn’t, any past experiences
We focus on a calm, safety-first experience. If a pet is too stressed to continue comfortably or safely, we’ll communicate and regroup on a plan.
Is grooming safe for senior pets?
Yes, senior pets can do well with grooming especially with comfortable handling, realistic styling choices and thoughtful scheduling.
Let us know about arthritis, vision/hearing changes, or anything that affects comfort so that we can adjust accordingly.
What about puppies – when should they start grooming?
Early, gentle exposure helps puppies learn that grooming is normal. A puppy’s first visits are often about:
- Building comfort with handling and tools
- Light trimming and tidy work
- Creating a positive routine
This is why we generally won’t subject a brand new puppy to a full groom on a first visit. It’s important to start early and ease them into it.
